     Universal concerns: eliminating malaria in Africa, why does the Earth exist(?), what does it mean spiritually to be a global citizen (?) AND  remembering the past 125 years of the United Methodist House; these were the topics of discussion our residents wrestled with the first week of the '13 Season.

"WORK, WORK, WORK ..............OPENING DAY IN SIGHT!"

     The second pre-season work weekend is now history and our wonderful volunteers have prepared the House for the 125th Anniversary Season.  Under the leadership of property committee chair, Chuck Bolan, everything from cleaning curtains to preparing new colorful gardens is complete.

     We paused during the afternoon work session to attend Wayne Furman's Memorial Service at Hurlbut UM Church.  Wayne was a Chautauquan Fireman, Head Carpenter for the Institution and UM House Board Member.

PREPARATIONS BEGIN FOR THE 125TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR !

     The volunteers arrived and the annual Spring cleanup began on the United Methodist House.  The photos to follow will document the wonderful efforts of our volunteer work force:

     New Bibles were placed in each room .... a  gift from Mrs. Connie Wilson in memory of her husband Tom, a visitor to the House for many years.

     It takes a lot of work to keep a house this old in livable condition and this group of workers are just a few in a long history of UM House supporters.  Hats off to all!

A WET, COLD BUT PRODUCTIVE WORK WEEKEND!

     A small group of volunteers went about the business of winterizing the UM House.  It was wet and cool but the work was completed.  Thanks to all who attended!  We await the 125 Anniversary Season '12.  See you then!

A PRESIDENTIAL PRESENTATION!!

     As Chautauqua focused on 'U. S. Presidents' this week our House was the scene of discussions that complimented that theme.  Rev. Wayne Butler, our chaplain, led discussions on the porch and in the chapel; 'Faith and the Presidential Elections' & 'The Jefferson Bible.'
