A WONDERFUL WRAPUP TO A MEMORABLE SUMMER!

Dr. Albert Aymer was the perfect individual/chaplain to end our 125th Anniversary Season.  His warm and welcoming personality made our porch 'home' to many individuals including our guests. He frequently beckoned pedestrians onto the porch to 'chat' awhile.  This attitude was a replica of our 'mission statement' and a fitting way to end the Summer.

THE BISHOP & SUSANNA WESLEY; A WEEK TO REMEMBER!

It was a week to remember as Bishop Peter Weaver, with his involvement with the think tank Council on Foreign Relations and currently as Executive Secretary of Council of Bishops in DC., related to the House the importance of religion in foreign affairs & public policy.

In addition we had the appearance of Susanna Wesley (Denise Reichert) who presented a special monologue on her life as John Wesley's mother.

DIPLOMACY ....... THAT WOULD BE OUR PORCH MOTTO!

Week seven was a climatic challenge, with rain, cool evenings and humid days.  However, our huge, friendly, warm porch (fans when too hot) & parlor were a refuge from the elements and a place for discussion of the weekly topic of 'diplomacy'.  Our Chaplain's (Bob Richards) attention to showing a Methodist face with a touch of humor was evident to all who shared our rocking chairs.

ITS NO CRIME TO VISIT THE UM HOUSE; PUNISHMENT IS MISSING THE OPPORTUNITY!

'Crime & Punishment' was indeed the theme for the week but at the UM House the activities centered around the life of a famous Methodist; John Wesley.  Fortunately our Chaplain for the week is the foremost authority on Wesley, the Rev. Richard Heitzenrater of Duke Divinity School.  He led several interesting sessions on quotes and images of John Wesley.
